Travelling Allowance for Haemodialysis Treatment

Patients requiring haemodialysis treatment may have to travel to the hospital 2-3 times per week. If they live far away from the hospital, the regular travelling expenses may create considerable financial pressure to the family.

Travelling allowance of $80 per single trip and $160 per round trip per session may be provided to the needy patients who have to travel by taxi between home and the hospital. For patients travelling by public transport which includes bus, MTR and minibus, with young patient possibly accompanied by a parent/ guardian, the allowance is HK$60 per round trip per session for 2 persons. A maximum of 150 sessions of treatment per calendar year may be subsidized. Means test on family income is required, with recommendation from both the attending doctor and medical social worker.
